Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Quality Lead to join our New Product Development (NPD) team. As a Quality subject matter expert in New Product Development, your primary focus will be on ensuring the reliability and quality of our products through robust design and engineering practices. You will leverage your expertise in design for reliability to optimize product design, development, and manufacturing processes, ensuring that our products not only meet regulatory standards but also achieve the highest levels of reliability and performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design for Reliability: Lead the development and implementation of tools and techniques focused on achieving highly reliable product designs. Apply methodologies such as DFMEA, MTBF, MTTF, FIT, HALT, HASS, and other reliability engineering practices to ensure product longevity and performance under various conditions.
- Quality Assurance Processes: Develop and implement comprehensive quality assurance processes, including Design Quality Procedures and Best Practices, to ensure that all product designs adhere to the highest quality standards throughout the development lifecycle.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks in product development through robust design risk management practices. Ensure thorough risk assessment and QA sign-off at each stage of the product development cycle to prevent potential issues and enhance product reliability.
- Design Assurance Leadership: Oversee design assurance activities for new product development, including leading engineering studies, feasibility testing, and thorough design reviews to ensure products meet reliability and quality standards.
- Test Method Development and Validation: Lead the development and validation of test methods to qualify and certify products, ensuring they meet both company standards and regulatory requirements, with a strong emphasis on reliability testing.
- Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with suppliers to establish and maintain stringent quality and reliability standards for components and materials, ensuring they contribute to the overall reliability of the final product.
- Production Support and Continuous Improvement: Provide ongoing support to Production and Sustaining teams, focusing on improving methods and systems to enhance product reliability and achieve world-class manufacturing standards.
- Change Management and Compliance: Oversee changes to existing products, SOPs, Work Instructions, Test Methods, Process Changes, and Design Changes (ECO/ECN), ensuring that reliability and quality are maintained or improved. Assess regulatory submission and notification requirements to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Statistical Process Control and Capability: Utilize statistical process control techniques and process capability analysis, including Cpk analysis, to monitor, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes, ensuring consistent product reliability and quality.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in design quality engineering, with a strong emphasis on design for reliability in new product development.
- Expertise in reliability engineering tools and techniques, including DFMEA, MTBF, MTTF, FIT, HALT, HASS, and related methodologies.
- Proven experience in leading design assurance activities, including engineering studies, feasibility testing, and design reviews, with a focus on enhancing product reliability.
- Strong knowledge of test method development and validation, with experience in qualifying and certifying products for reliability.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing quality assurance processes and documentation focused on reliability.
- Experience in risk management, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks that could impact product reliability.
- Practical experience with statistical process control, process capability analysis, and Cpk analysis to ensure product consistency and reliability.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and industry standards, such as ISO 9001.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, or similar methodologies is a plus.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in the power electronics industry, particularly in the design and development of advanced power conversions based on embedded systems with a focus on reliability.
- Practical experience with high-volume manufacturing processes and the ability to implement quality and reliability standards across the supply chain.
- Knowledge of supplier quality management and experience working with global supply chains.
